Rathbone Investment Management International, based in Jersey, was recently asked to support two local children’s cancer charities, CLIC Sargent and Teenage Cancer Trust, by sponsoring two paediatric nurses from the Jersey General Hospital in their efforts to raise money by doing a tandem parachute jump.
Rather than just arrange the jumps and make a cash donation, Rathbone Investment Management International decided to put one of its very own up in the sky to make the 10,000ft leap to earth, and thus raise further funds in the process.
On 1 September the skies above Jersey were perfect, and Tim Ford and the two nurses fell to earth at more than 100mph, strapped to their respective instructors. After what felt like a lifetime of freefall the instructors pulled the chutes open and the trio gently floated down towards the sandy beach of St. Aubin’s Bay.
To date, the sponsorship efforts have raised in excess of £3,000 for the charities, with further funds still coming in. We would like to thank all those that so generously donated money to both CLIC Sargent and the Teenage Cancer Trust, both of which will be able to make a significant difference to the children’s lives they are supporting.
