Rathbones formally opens its doors in Exeter

Released: 30 June 2008

Rathbone Investment Management (Rathbones), one of the UK’s largest managers of investments for private investors, formally opened its first office in Exeter today.

Rathbones acquired local investment management firm Citywall Financial Management Limited in April 2008 and the business has moved to new premises in The Senate, Southernhay Gardens, a new development in the centre of the city, and has been formally renamed Rathbones as from today.

Stephen Phillips, formerly managing director of Citywall, now head of Rathbones Exeter, has been looking after the financial affairs of local people since 1980 and comments: “I and my team are delighted to continue to serve the local needs of Exeter and the West Country with the backing of a national name. We hope that the quality and stability of the Rathbones name will further attract additional investment professionals and clients alike in Exeter and the surrounding area. There are few truly independent, British private client investment management firms of any real size left, many of our competitors having passed into the hands of large international banks. Many private clients have borne the brunt of associated staff movements."

Stephen and his existing team will continue to specialise in the management of investment portfolios for private clients, trusts, charities and SIPPs.

Rathbones has nine further offices throughout the UK, including its head office in London’s New Bond Street, and manages nearly £11 billion of funds for individuals and trustees. Rathbones is part of Rathbone Brothers Plc which remains an independent company with a listing on the London Stock Exchange. (Figures as at 5 April 2008).
