What’s changed?

The Autumn Budget has introduced measures that could affect your wealth planning.

  • Income tax thresholds will remain frozen for an extra three years, and inheritance tax thresholds for one more year - both until 2031.
  • This means more individuals and estates may find themselves paying higher taxes.
  • From April 2029, salary sacrifice relief will be capped at £2,000, limiting the tax/National Insurance benefits on pension contributions made this way.
  • Owners of properties worth over £2 million will face a new council tax surcharge.
  • While the annual ISA allowance stays the same, from April 2027 those under 65 can only save £12,000 in cash, encouraging investments of the remaining £8,000.

Why act now?

These changes underline the importance of proactive planning. Acting without expert advice can lead to costly mistakes, whether it’s accelerating asset disposals, restructuring property portfolios or revisiting pension plans.

Our advisers can help you navigate the changing tax landscape, avoid unnecessary tax liabilities and identify alternative tax-efficient planning strategies.

Don’t leave your financial future to chance. Speak to a Rathbones adviser to stay ahead of these changes.
