Chart of the Week: The high street is taking a hit

The outlook is uncertain for many high-street stores as we increasingly prefer to shop from the comfort of our own homes. We’re also spending our cash on experiences, rather than clothes and other material things. These are big changes for traditional retailers who will have to adapt to survive. The high street is adapting too – Johnnie Walker, for example, will be moving into one of Edinburgh’s iconic shops on Prince’s Street, as part of Diageo’s £185m investment in Scotch whisky experiences in Scotland.
