Newcastle office partnership with The Sage and Royal Northern Sinfonia

Opened in December 2004 and with an iconic design by Foster & Partners, the Sage Gateshead concert hall or “the Sage” as it is know locally, has quickly become a standout landmark on the south bank of the river Tyne.

Home to the Royal Northern Sinfonia, one of the world’s leading orchestras, and the Folkworks programme, the venue hosted a number of special events to mark its first decade in existence last year.

Rathbones has been a corporate partner of the Sage since we opened our Newcastle office in 2013 and at the end of last year we were delighted to enhance this relationship by becoming principal partner to the co-leader chair of the orchestra, a seat currently filled by violinist Kyra Humphreys (left).

As well as being a permanent home to the Royal Northern Sinfonia, the venue programmes all types of live music presenting the very best in jazz, classical, folk, rock, dance, pop, world, opera and more.

It also has a world renowned Learning and Participation programme.  Working at grass roots levels in the heart of local communities with all ages and abilities, it uses music to increase aspiration and confidence in young people and adults throughout the North East.

Commenting on the relationship, Nick Swales, regional director of the Newcastle office, says “we are delighted to have renewed and enhanced our relationship with the Sage and now also with Kyra.  We love what the Sage does because it allows local people to enjoy the very best musicians from all over the world and it also supports young people from the region to learn and develop, an area that Rathbones is committed to nationally through a variety of programmes.”
