Webinar: Charity trustee training - Resilience

15 Sep 2020 - 15:00 to 16:00

Is strong governance the key to survive and thrive post COVID-19?

At a time when we are all feeling tested and stretched to capacity, Rathbones is shining a light on one of the hardest hit sectors - Charities.  Fiona Gillespie, Rathbones Head of Charities, Scotland along with Kenneth Pinkerton, Brodies Director of Charity Law and Jude Turbyne, OSCR’s Head of Engagement would be delighted if you could join them in conversation to discuss just how resilient the Scottish charity sector is and how important strong governance will be to their survival in a post COVID-19 world.

What makes a charity resilient?
Jude Turbyne looks at the link between charity trustee duties and the resilience of charities.  She will bring in reflections from recent sector surveys, and will talk about how transparency around the work a charity does and the impact that work is having can contribute towards that resilience.

Does good governance strengthen the resilience of charities?
Kenneth Pinkerton discusses good governance against the backdrop of Covid-19 including trustee duties, virtual meetings, the role of the chair and tips on decision making.  He will also consider the challenges of strategy versus operations and what trustees might do once a risk materialises.

How to invest in volatile markets?
Fiona Gillespie highlights the importance of having a well-diversified investment portfolio in turbulent times, and what that means from a practical perspective. She will illustrate some of the dangers of having all your investments in ‘one basket’.

This webinar is CPD accredited and attendance can be recorded as 1 hour towards annual CPD requirements.
