Clive was appointed as chairman on 12 January 2021.

He started his career as a banker at First National Bank of Boston in 1981 in Boston and London, and in 1984, he joined Booz Allen & Hamilton as an associate and became a partner in the financial consulting practice in 1990.

In 1994, Clive joined HSBC Investment Bank as Director and Head of Planning and Strategy in London with a remit to help with the integration of part of James Capel. He moved to New York in 1996 to be the deputy CEO of HSBC Inc and Head of Investment Banking in the US. In 1999, he was appointed Chief Executive of HSBC Group Private Banking and subsequently became Group General Manager in July 2001, and Group Managing Director in 2006 on the Executive Committee, of Group Insurance and Asset Management at HSBC Holdings Plc. In 2011, Clive was recruited as group CEO of the Phoenix Group, the UK’s largest life and pensions consolidator. During his time at Phoenix Group, a series of successful acquisitions were made, including AXA Wealth, Sun Life, Standard Life Assurance and the acquisition of ReAssurance from Swiss Re.  Clive is currently a chairman of the Museum of London.

Paul was appointed chief executive in May 2019, having served as managing director of Rathbone Investment Management from May 2018. He was previously group finance director from 2008 to April 2019.

Paul qualified as a chartered accountant with PriceWaterhouse in 1992, subsequently taking up a position in New York before returning to London in 1996. In 1999 he joined Old Mutual Plc as group financial controller, becoming director of finance of Gerrard Limited in 2001. In 2005, two years after the sale of Gerrard, he left to work initially for Euroclear and, subsequently, as a divisional finance director of the Phoenix Group. He was formerly a non-executive director of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.

Jennifer Mathias

Jennifer was appointed to the board on 1 April 2019.

Jennifer began her career on the Lloyds TSB Finance graduate scheme following her graduation in 1995 and qualified as a chartered management accountant in 1999.  At Lloyds, Jennifer held a number of senior management roles and worked closely with the board-level team of the Lloyds TSB Group, and was a member of the Corporate Banking and Wholesale Finance Executive Committees. In addition to her position as a finance director of Corporate Banking, Jennifer spent three years as head of Credit Risk & Compliance for the Commercial Banking division of Lloyds TSB. In 2012, she joined Coutts as the global chief finance officer, and in 2015, she moved to EFG Private Bank (UK), where she was chief finance officer and deputy chief executive officer.

Colin Clark

Colin was appointed as a non-executive director in October 2018 and was appointed as senior independent director at our 2021 AGM.  In addition, he was appointed as a designated non-executive director for our workforce engagement programme in 2019.

He is currently chairman of The Merchants Trust Plc, AXA Investment Managers UK and a non-executive director of AXA Investment Management SA. Previously, Colin worked at Mercury Asset Management and Merrill Lynch Investment Managers for over 20 years. In 2004, he was appointed a non-executive director at Standard Life Investments, and in 2010, he was appointed as an executive director of Standard Life Investments. He was appointed to the Standard Life Plc board as an executive director with responsibility for the Global Client Group and retired from this position in 2017. He was previously a non-executive director of Alpha Strategic Plc, and the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust.

Iain was appointed as non-executive director on 5 October 2021. 

Iain is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales with over 35 years of experience working in the financial sector.

He was a partner at KPMG for over 24 years working with banks and other major financial services firms in both audit and advisory roles including three years leading KPMG’s banking audit practice.  His audit roles included large firms in the investment banking sector and listed firms in the wealth, asset management and insurance sectors while his advisory engagements focused on aspects of risk, regulation and internal audit.

He also served for a number of years as Chairman if the ICAEW Financial Services Faculty’s Risk and Regulation Committee and as a member of the ICAEW’s Technical Strategy Board.

James Dean

James was appointed as a non-executive director in 2013 and is chair of the audit committee.

He is a chartered accountant with over 30 years’ experience working in financial services. He has worked in a variety of roles at Ernst & Young over a period of 14 years, including holding the position of managing partner for the UK Financial Services Audit Practice for four years.

Since 2012, James has gained significant non-executive director experience serving on the boards of a large UK retail insurer, LV= and a small Building Society. More recently he has joined the board of Inigo Ltd as a non-executive director, a PE backed London Market insurance and reinsurance company. He is also Senior Independent Director of The Stafford Railway Building Society, and a Chairman of Reigate Grammar School

Terri was appointed as a non-executive director in July 2018 and is chair of the risk committee.

Terri graduated with a Maths degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). She is currently a non-executive director on the board of Morgan Stanley International where she chairs the risk committee and is also chair of Morgan Stanley Investment Management Limited. Terri is also a non-executive director Hanover Investors Ltd and, an Associate Fellow at The Saïd Business School at Oxford University and on the MIT Corporation Visiting Committee. Previously, Terri sat on the boards of CHAPS Co and UK Operation Smile and was a founding member of the Women’s Leadership Group for the Prince’s Trust. As an executive, Terri held a number of senior roles at JP Morgan and ABN AMRO before setting up her own consultancy firm.

Sarah was appointed as a non-executive director in 2015 and chair of the Remuneration Committee in June 2017. She was appointed as a designated non-executive director for our workforce engagement in 2019 along with Colin Clark.

She started her career as a consultant at McKinsey & Company and then worked for several years in the telecoms and digital sectors, latterly as chief financial officer of the LCR Telecom Group. In 1999, she joined the internet bank Egg, the internet banking subsidiary of Prudential, where she was responsible for business development and strategy. In 2005, she joined Sanford C. Bernstein & Co, the institutional research and trading arm of Alliance Bernstein, as a banking analyst covering the European banking sector. Sarah is an adviser to early-stage technology companies, and non-executive director of Engine B Ltd.

Dharmash was appointed as non-executive director on 5 October 2021. 

He is currently a board member of The British Business Bank, Halma plc, BBC Commercial Holdings, Blow Ltd and The Premier League. 

Dharmash started his career with Procter & Gamble on their graduate programme and then went on to become a brand manager, followed by a period with Boston Consulting Group.  He spent eight years in the media as Group Managing Director of EMAP Consumer Media and EMAP Performance.

Dharmash is an experienced technology venture capitalist, entrepreneur and non-executive director. He was formerly a Partner at Balderton & Lakestar, leading investments including Revolut, Glovo, Infarm, Blockchain.com & Lovefilm amongst others.  Prior to this he was Group MD of Emap Consumer Media, where he co-led the delisting of Emap PLC from the FTSE 100. His prior board NED positions include: BBC Executive Board, Hargreaves Lansdown PLC & Dixons Retail PLC.

Ali joined Rathbones in April 2016 and was appointed company secretary in May 2016. Prior to joining Rathbones, Ali spent nine years as director of company secretarial services at Signet Jewelers having responsibilities for a wide variety of areas and functions during this time. Ali graduated in Law and is a Fellow of Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators.

Abigail joined Rathbone Greenbank in 2018. She started her career with Computershare Investor Services in 2011 working in the correspondence and then gilts & structured product teams. Abigail specialised as a dividend officer at Computershare from 2016 paying dividends for a number of FTSE 100 clients.

Adam Drummond

Adam is a Regional Director and manages investment portfolios for clients ranging from individuals and families to trusts, pension funds and charitable organisations. He joined Speirs & Jeffrey in 2010 and is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment.

He graduated from the University of St Andrews with an honours degree in Business Management. He then studied for a postgraduate qualification in Investment & Finance at the University of Strathclyde before joining Speirs & Jeffrey in 2010 and becoming a director. Speirs & Jeffrey was fully integrated with Rathbones in July 2019.

Adam was named in the 2021 PAM Insight UK Top 40 Under 40, which looks at the rising stars across the Wealth Management and Private Banking Industries.

Adam is an investment manager and has worked in private client investment management since 2011. He joined Rathbones in 2017 having previously worked at Redmayne-Bentley.

Adam completed a Masters in Wealth Management in 2017. This is the highest qualification the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment offers. He graduated from University in 2008 with a 2:1 degree in Business Management with Finance and Economics.

Adam specialises in discretionary investment management for private clients, trusts, charities and personal pension funds (SIPPs).

Adam is an investment director, having joined Rathbones in November 2019 from Aberdeen Standard Capital where he was a senior portfolio manager. Working with Will Kinman, he manages discretionary investment portfolios for UK & offshore domiciled individuals, companies and trusts.

Adam has over 20 years of investment experience managing portfolios for both institutional and private clients. He is a CFA charterholder and a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment and holds a degree in Business Studies from the University of the West of England, Bristol.

Adam joined Rathbones in 2021 as an assistant investment manager after spending two and a half years at Investec. During his time at Investec, Adam worked as a portfolio manager where he managed multi asset portfolios on behalf of private clients, pension funds and charities. He graduated from the University of Bristol in 2018 with a degree in Economics and has since achieved the Level 7 Chartered Wealth Manager qualification.

Adrian joined Rathbones in 2004 after graduating from the University of Liverpool with an honours degree in Financial Economics.

He specialises in the management of portfolios for charities, as part of Rathbones’ charity team, as well as managing private clients’ assets including ISAs, SIPPs and trusts.

Adrian is a CFA charterholder (Chartered Financial Analyst) as well as a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI). He is a member of Rathbones group Stock Selection Committee and chairs the Charity Fixed Income and Collectives Committee.

Aimee Barker

Aimee is an assistant investment manager with Rathbone Investment Management International in Jersey. She graduated from Jersey International Business School with a first class honours degree in International Financial Services, awarded by the University of Buckingham. Aimee subsequently joined Rathbones in September 2017 as part of the Rathbone graduate entry programme.

She is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment, having passed in 2019 the Level 6 Certificate in Private Client Investment Advice & Management (PCIAM) with merit. Aimee also holds the Investment Advice Diploma.

Alan joined Rathbones in October 2005. He became co-manager of the Rathbone Income Fund in October 2018. Alan has previously managed and co-managed a number of UK, European and global equity funds for Rathbones.

He graduated from the University of Strathclyde with an MSc Finance and also holds degrees in Accounting & Finance and Chemical Sciences from the Universities of Glasgow and Edinburgh, respectively. Alan holds the Investment Management Certificate (IMC) and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder.

Alan is an investment director for Rathbone Investment Management International and manages a range of private client, trust, corporate and charity portfolios. Alan is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.

Alan began his career in offshore finance in 1987 with AIB Bank in Jersey and prior to joining Rathbones in October 2012, he was responsible for AIB’s offshore investment proposition.

Shortly after joining Rathbones in 2015, Alanah completed her Diploma in Financial Planning from the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII). She obtained Chartered Financial Planner status in December 2018 and shortly after became a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society (PFS) in June 2019. 

She has over nine years’ experience in the industry having previously worked for Brewin Dolphin assisting two financial planners. She has also spent time working from our Newcastle office.

Alanah provides tailored financial planning advice to our private clients in retirement accumulation and decumulation stages, tax-efficient investments and structures, estate planning and protection planning.

Alastair is an investment director and a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment.

Alastair has spent his entire working career in private client investment management in London, starting in 1984 at Vickers da Costa. Alastair joined Laurence Keen, which subsequently became part of Rathbones, in 1992.

Alastair is an investment director and Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment. He manages portfolios for a wide range of clients including private individuals, trusts and charities. His particular areas of interest include macroeconomics, technical analysis and alternative asset classes.

Alastair graduated from Durham University with an honours degree in Engineering. His financial career began at KPMG and Blackadders solicitors’ investment department before joining Speirs & Jeffrey in 2004. Speirs & Jeffrey was fully integrated with Rathbones in July 2019.

Alastair is a Chartered Wealth Manager and Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment. He has a law degree from The University of Dundee as well as an MBA from the University of Strathclyde Graduate School of Business.
 
He joined James Finlay Investment Management in 1987 where he worked as an investment manager until the company was acquired by Brewin Dolphin in 1996 where he served as a divisional director until joining Rathbones in 2015. 
 
Alastair has over 25 years of experience in private client investment management. He grew up in England but was educated in Scotland and works across the UK with a diverse client base specialising in the management of family wealth. He has long experience in collectives management as well as direct equity and bond market investment.
 
He has been a member of the Glasgow City Committee for Macmillan Cancer Support for the past ten years.

Alex joined Rathbones as an investment director in 2002 and manages a large portfolio of high net worth private clients, their SIPPs and associated trusts. He started his investment career in London over 30 years ago at Henderson Administration where he trained. He subsequently helped establish the private client fund management department within Murray Johnstone before moving to Premier Asset Management.

Alex is a Chartered Wealth Manager and a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investments.

Alex is an investment director, he has a joint honours degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from UEA. Alex is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments, holding the Diploma, and is also a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder.

Prior to joining Rathbones in December 2007, Alex worked at HSBC Investments (formerly James Capel) for eight years managing investment portfolios for charities and private clients. At HSBC Alex was a member of the UK Stock Committee and specifically covered the engineering, aerospace and defence sectors.

Alex is head of collectives research for Rathbones. He is responsible for carrying out quantitative and qualitative analysis to select funds for recommended use within portfolios managed at Rathbones across different asset classes and strategies. He sits on Rathbone’s Collectives Research Committees and also assists the Rathbone multi-asset portfolios team with their collectives’ investments.

Alex joined Rathbones in May 2015. Prior to joining, he worked for the British Steel Pension Fund and Dimensional Fund Advisors, specialising in Asia-Pacific and Emerging Markets equity portfolio management. Alex graduated from the University of Durham with a BA (Hons) in Economics. He holds the Investment Management Certificate, is a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment, and is a CFA charterholder.

Alex is director of tax at Rathbones and has been advising private clients and business owners for 20 years. He specialises in providing capital gains and inheritance tax advice and has a wide range of experience in  all areas of private trust work.

Alex Turnbull

Alex is an investment director, his main focus is in managing assets for the not for profit, pension and corporate sector with a bias towards structuring segregated asset portfolios. He has particular expertise in corporate debt and equities, and where possible has a preference for direct investment of these asset classes. He chairs the Charity Asset Allocation and Stock Committee and also sits on the UK Equity and Fixed Income Committee for the Investment Management division of Rathbones.
Alex is Chartered Fellow of the Securities Institute and holds the Securities Institute Diploma, having qualified in 1989. Prior to joining Rathbones in 2008, he spent 20 years at HSBC Global Asset Management (formerly James Capel) where he was responsible for developing and leading the successful Charity division.

Alex is a Chartered Financial Planner, a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society and also holds the Investment Management Certificate (CFA). He joined Rathbones in 2019 and has significant knowledge and experience in providing the advice and direction which enables clients to meet their financial goals.

Alex helps on a broad range of areas including investment structuring, wealth preservation, retirement planning and legacy planning.

Previously, Alex managed the financial planning team at Kleinwort Benson and was awarded “Best Wealth Planning Team” at the WealthBriefing European Awards, 2017.

Alexandra Jackson

Alexandra is the manager of the Rathbone UK Opportunities Fund. Previously she was co-manager of the Rathbone Recovery Fund, appointed in June 2014, and has spent nearly 15 years with Rathbones.

Alexandra joined Rathbone Unit Trust Management in 2007 as an equity analyst, and then became assistant fund manager on the Rathbone Global Opportunities Fund.

Alexandra is a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) charter-holder and holds the Investment Management Certificate. She has a BA (Hons) in Economics from the University of Durham.
