Kate Palmer

Kate is an investment manager based in the Winchester office. Her career began in London with Bordier UK (formerly Berry Asset Management) where she was responsible for managing portfolios for private clients, personal pension funds and trusts. She spent 10 years at Bordier before joining Rathbones in 2016.  

Kate is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and holds the Masters in Wealth Management. She graduated from the University of Manchester with an honours degree in Economics.

Kate works within the team as an investment analyst. She joined Rathbones in September 2012, having worked as a senior analyst at UBS. Originally from Canada, Kate has over thirty years of investment experience, both as a fund manager and an analyst, focussing for much of that time on North American equities. A graduate of the University of Toronto, Kate holds the Securities and Investment Institute, Certificate of Securities and is a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) charter-holder.

Kate Shepherd joined Rathbone Greenbank in November 2010 and she holds an MSc in finance and investment from the University of Bristol. Kate has been awarded the Investment Advice Diploma and is an associate member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment.

Keith Mackenzie

Keith is an investment director, responsible for managing a number of portfolios for private individuals, personal pensions, trusts and charities.

He is a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and holds an honours degree in Business Studies. Prior to joining Rathbones in May 2012, Keith spent four years working as an investment manager for Williams De Broe in Edinburgh having previously worked for Gerrards and Barclays Wealth.

Kerry is a trust manager joining Rathbone Trust Company in 1997. Kerry heads a team whose wealth of experience can provide trustees with trust taxation, inheritance tax compliance, accountancy and administration services for all types of trust funds. The team works closely with the Trust Company’s personal tax specialists to ensure beneficiaries receive the most tax efficient service possible.

Within the team there are probate specialists who can assist executors by obtaining probate, liaising with HM Revenue & Customs on all areas of tax compliance, preparing estate accounts and full administration services.

Kerry specialises in charity structures and as a charity trustee herself understands the responsibility this brings. Kerry is able to assist trustees with their compliance, including preparation of all types of charity accounts. She has many years of experience and is an associate member of the Association of Charity Independent Examiners. Members of her team can also help trustees with their administration, tailoring a service to suit the charity’s structure and governance.

Kerry is a Member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), a Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (MCISI) and a Member of the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT).

Kerry qualified as a solicitor in 2013, having trained with a Surrey based Legal 500 Firm of solicitors, and joined Rathbones in 2014. She advises on Wills and estate planning, powers of attorney, probate and estate administration as well as trust matters.

Kerry is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.

Kevin Custis

Kevin is a director of Rathbone Trust Company Limited and specialises in trust creation, administration and associated tax advice, together with long experience of estate and personal tax planning and executorship work.

Prior to joining Rathbones in 2001 Kevin was a director of Kleinwort Benson Trustees Limited and before that a trust administrator with a leading firm of solicitors and a trust accountant with a leading firm of chartered accountants in London. Kevin is a registered trust and estate practitioner, Legal Executive and the chair of the London Central Branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) whist serving on a number of London and nationwide STEP committees.

Kevin has been a contributing author to the Lexis Nexis Butterworth Tolley reference publications on the administration of estates and trust drafting and precedents where his subjects cover inheritance, income, and capital gains taxes, trust accounting and trust documentation. Other related positions include serving as trustee and treasurer to a number of national and local charities, and lecturing and writing on trust and estate related topics.

Kindar Brown

Kindar joined Rathbones in 2019 with over 20 years’ experience.

Kindar is one of a relatively small number of advisers in the UK to hold both the Chartered Financial Planner designation from the Personal Finance Society and the internationally recognised Certified Financial Planner certification from the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment. She is also a qualified financial neutral through Consensus Collaboration Scotland which allows her to act in collaborative divorce cases.

Kindar is very experienced in providing clients with a holistic financial planning service including advice on matters such as tax efficient wealth structuring, retirement income planning, Inheritance Tax and estate planning. She has a particular interest in cashflow modelling and providing clients with the peace of mind to live their lives the way they want, unburdened by financial worries. Kindar is passionate about the benefits financial planning can offer clients and she truly enjoys being involved in a clients’ financial planning journey and the peace of mind it can bring.

Kirstie McKeown

Kirstie joined Rathbones in February 2013 to assist in establishing the Newcastle office.  Previously she spent over 25 years working for Lloyds Private Banking and Lloyds TSB Independent Financial Advisers.  Kirstie is part of the specialist personal injury and Court of Protection team at Rathbones and has advised deputies and trustees in this area for over a decade.

Kirstie qualified as a Chartered Financial Planner in 2007 and became a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society in 2008.  She specialises in the provision of holistic financial planning to high-net-worth individuals.

Laura Dempsey

Laura joined the team in 2017 and has over 6 years’ experience in the financial services industry.

Shortly after joining Rathbones, she completed her Diploma in Financial Planning and is currently working towards Chartered Financial Planner status.

Laura has worked for a number of financial institutions including Canada Life and Succession Group.

She assists with client meetings and the associated tasks as well as drafting certain pieces of advice.

Leah is an assistant investment manager with Rathbone Investment Management International in Jersey. She joined Rathbones in 2017 and sits on the company’s Investment Committee and Dealing and Execution Committee as the representative for RIMIL.  Leah graduated from Cardiff University in 2014 with a first class honours degree in History.  

She is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and qualified as a Level 7 Chartered Wealth Manager in 2019, previously passing the Level 6 Certificate in Private Client Investment Advice and Management (PCIAM) with Distinction.

Lee Barter

Lee is an investment manager and a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.  Lee joined Rathbones from Barclays Wealth and has over 15 years experience within the private client investment management industry. In recent years he has worked at BlackRock in the Charities division and managed private client portfolios for a number of years at Rensburg Sheppards. 

Libby Barrett

Libby joined Rathbones in 2012, after graduating from Bristol University with a first class honours degree in Chemistry. She is an Associate of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment, having obtained the Investment Advice Diploma, and is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder.

Libby specialises in managing the investments and administration of charity and private client portfolios. Within Rathbones she sits on the Developed Equities Committee, specialising in the selection of North American funds. Libby is a trustee in her own right.

Linda is trust director, joining Rathbone Trust Company Limited in March 2000 from Kleinwort Benson Private Bank. Linda is an associate of the Institute of Bankers and completed the old style Trustee Diploma, beginning her career at National Westminster Bank in 1974. At Kleinwort Benson Linda was responsible for the trusts and financial affairs of the founding families and more recently having overall responsibility for the trustee department.

Lindsay has over 30 years experience of catering for the investment needs of high net worth individuals, trusts, charities and self invested personal pension accounts. 

He has a broad experience of the investment industry having started his working life with Friends Provident Life and Pensions and moving on to be a senior divisional director with Brewin Dolphin.

A member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments, Lindsay is at the forefront of the establishment of the new Rathbones office in Glasgow.

Ling is a Smaller Companies Analyst who joined Rathbones in 2018 from Adam & Company, where she was an Associate Director in the Investment Team for 10 years.  She is responsible for providing individual stock research for smaller companies with a focus on AIM listed companies.

Prior to Rathbones, Ling worked at various investment houses including Aberdeen Asset Management, SVM Asset Management and Franklin Templeton Investments. She has also worked as a research analyst for a hedge fund in New York.

Ling holds a degree in Science Studies, where she majored in Mathematics, Statistics and Finance from the University of Strathclyde and has a Masters in Management Science from the University of Kent.  She also holds diploma in Customer Relationship Management from the Chartered Institute of Bankers Scotland and has completed her Investment Management Certificate and Private Client Investment Advice and Management Certificate.

Lloyd Davies

Lloyd is a fully qualified Financial Planner and member of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), as well as holding the certificate in Discretionary Investment Management. He has recently re-joined Rathbones after a stint working elsewhere, where he spent time advising clients on all aspects of financial planning as well as honing his skills and technical expertise.

Lloyd believes that the client relationship is the best foundation to help understand how Financial Planning can benefit clients in achieving their long term goals. He is passionate about all areas of Financial Planning with particular focus on Inheritance Tax and Pension planning.

He is in the process of becoming a fellow of the Personal Finance Society and outside of work plays rugby for Esher in National League 1.

Lorraine is an investment manager responsible for managing investment portfolios on behalf of private clients, trusts and charities. 

She has worked in investment management for over 16 years and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment, having completed the Regulation & Compliance and Private Client Investment Advice and Management examinations.  Prior to joining Rathbones, Lorraine was an investment manager with Brewin Dolphin, Glasgow.

Lyndsay is a tax manager, joining Rathbones in 1989 after starting her tax career with a local chartered accountancy firm. Lyndsay has considerable experience, specialising in personal tax compliance as it affects individuals and trusts and enjoys all aspects of private client work. Lyndsay is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).

Marcus Hutchings

Marcus is an investment director specialising in private client portfolio management, associated self invested pension schemes and trusts. He also manages investment portfolios on behalf of charities.

He is a graduate of Exeter University and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment. The early part of his financial career was spent at Killik & Co in London before joining Rathbones in 1997.

Mark Cowan

Mark is an investment director with many years investment experience. He manages portfolios for a wide range of individuals, families, trusts, pension funds and charitable organisations.

Mark joined Speirs & Jeffrey in 1989 after studying business studies at college and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment. Speirs & Jeffrey was fully integrated with Rathbones in July 2019.

Mark has worked as a financial adviser and latterly as an investment manager for over 30 years.  He joined Rathbones in 2015 following a 13 year career with Gerrard and Barclays Wealth.

Since 2007, Mark has worked with a large number of specialist professionals in personal injury and Court of Protection, aiding lay and public authority deputies with the wealth management and broader finances of an extremely vulnerable client base. He is a proud supporter of Headway East London, Headway Blackpool and Wyre & Fylde, raising charitable donations with his team from various events and adventures over the past decade. Mark is a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.

Mark is Director – Corporate Development and is part of the team responsible for co-ordinating the M & A activities for the Group and leading Group-wide strategic projects. He qualified as a chartered accountant with Arthur Andersen & Co and is also a member of the Association of Corporate Treasurers.

Prior to joining Rathbones he spent over 16 years with Kleinwort Benson specialising in securitisation, structured finance and M & A transactions and latterly as Finance Director of Dresdner RCM Global Investors. He joined Rathbones in 2005. 

Mark Waring

Mark is an investment director who began his career at Rathbones in 2006.  He spent the first six years working on the central dealing desk, during which time he was responsible for trading all asset classes with a particular focus on fixed interest securities. He moved to investment management in 2012 and now manages a variety of bespoke portfolios for private clients, including SIPP’s, charities, offshore bonds and family trusts, working in a team alongside Helen Gerrard and Nick Jackson. 

Mark is also involved in the running Rathbones’ financial awareness programme – a national initiative which aims to increase the financial awareness of young people. As part of this programme, Mark speaks at schools and hosts financial workshops for young people who are looking to broaden their financial knowledge or seeking to pursue careers in the finance industry. 

Mark has completed the Securities Institute Diploma, is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and is a Chartered Wealth Manager. He also holds an honours degree in English.

Mark is regional director in the Cambridge office. He is an investment director who specialises in the management of private client portfolios, trusts, pensions and charities. Mark has worked in the financial industry since his graduation in 1994 and he was directly involved in opening the Cambridge office for Rathbones in 2001.

Mark has been a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment since 1999 and became a fellow in 2000. He received the APCIMS Award for achieving the highest marks that year in the Private Client Investment Advice and Management paper of the Diploma.

Martha joined Rathbones as an investment director in 2016.  At Rathbones Martha concentrates on investments for private individuals, their pensions and family trusts, specialising in the management of multi asset investment portfolios.  Martha is a qualified Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments and holds the Securities Institute Diploma.

Having graduated from the University of Edinburgh, Martha began her career at Cazenove, on the Graduate Training Programme, gaining experience in all facets of the business. She concluded that a future managing individuals’ wealth suited her skill set and interest. In 2006 Martha joined HSBC Global Asset Management in the Discretionary Wealth division.  As a director, Martha had regional responsibility for London working closely with clients and their advisers.

Martin joined Rathbones in 2014 as an investment director in 2014 before being appointed regional director in 2019.  A specialist in investments, Martin already had a strong reputation when he came to us from Williams de Broë (now Investec) and continues to build on that today.

A Chartered Member of the Securities Institute for Securities and Investment, Martin has worked in the financial services industry for over 40 years.  As well as being responsible for running and developing the Chichester team he also manages a large portfolio of investments for private clients, personal pensions, trusts, charities and company accounts.

Mary Sheehan

Mary is a Research Administrator and joined Rathbones in 2016.  Mary sits on the Research support team and is responsible for taking minutes of meetings, building relationships with external brokers, organising company meetings, creating and maintaining departmental procedures and other ad hoc project work.

Mary has over 17 years’ experience in financial services, having previously worked for Lloyds Banking Group and BGC Partners. She gained her AAT Accounting certificate in 2001 and became a full member of the Association of Accounting Technicians in 2002.

Matt Beaumont

Matthew has recently joined Rathbones as an investment director having over 23 years of investment experience managing portfolio for individuals, trusts, charities and pension funds at Quilter Cheviot.

He is a Chartered Fellow of the CISI as well as being a long serving committee member and ex-president of the Manchester District of the CISI. He holds a BA (Hons) degree in Accounting & Finance from the University of Manchester.

Matthew’s focus remains to work closely with the owners of the funds and their chosen professional advisers, providing the highest quality of service at all times.

Matt Crossman

Matt is the Stewardship Director for the group. Overseeing the work of the Stewardship Committee, he ensures active voting at company AGMs, whilst also being the group lead on the integration of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) factors into the investment process. He also leads thematic engagement with companies on ESG issues, especially that undertaken via the UN backed Principles for Responsible Investment. 

He is a graduate of the University of Bristol where he studied law, with a particular interest in the administration of environmental law, and also has post-graduate qualifications in Sustainable Development theory and practice. He is a trustee of LoveBristol, and urban regeneration charity, and served on the board of the Ecumenical Council for Corporate Responsibility between 2007 and 2012.
