Accessibility

We believe that everyone should have equal access to the information about the services we provide and we are committed to continually working towards achieving this goal and making our website inclusive and available for all user groups. This page explains:

  • our approach to making this website accessible, including what we have done and will do in the future;
  • the facilities that we have provided for different accessibility needs;
  • guidance on how to use particular features;
  • what to do if you have any questions or feedback for us.

Our approach

We believe the web pages on the site are, as a minimum, in line with all of the priority level 1 criteria of World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C’s) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines

Our aim is to provide a seamless user experience by implementing or continually improving a number of measures, including the following:

  • Creating meaningful ALT text for all images to provide descriptive text
  • Using descriptive hyperlink text
  • Choosing web colour contrasts that are easy to see
  • Ensuring the website can be navigated with all major screen reader software
  • Ensuring keyboard operability
  • Allowing for browser zoom support
  • Providing transcripts or captions/subtitles for multimedia content like videos and podcasts

Website accessibility widget

In the bottom right of your device's screen, selecting the human icon (웃) will open our accessibility widget. You can also open it on a desktop or laptop computer by holding down the CTRL and ALT keys, and then pressing the A key.

The accessibility widget allows a user to:

  • Choose from a range of accessibility profiles
  • Give audio instructions to navigate the website, using the voice navigation feature
  • Open a screen reader
  • Invert the website's colours
  • Apply a light, dark, high or smart contrast
  • Change imagery and text colours to monochrome, high saturation or low saturation
  • Change the font sizes, line heights and letter spacing
  • Change the font size, or make it easier to read for users with dyslexia
  • Stop animations
  • Realign the text to right, centre or left

Screen reader / voice browser / screen magnifier users

Our navigation mechanisms are accessible by screen readers and voice browsers.

Text equivalents of all images have been provided and the relevant page and table header tags inserted. Alternative mechanisms have been provided where JavaScript is used within the site.

Partially sighted users - changing the font size

If you don't wish to use the website's accessibility widget, you can also change the font size in your browser:

  • If you are using a browser on a Personal Computer, on your keyboard, you can hold down the CTRL key and press the + key to increase the size of the site, or hold down the CTRL key and press the - key to decrease the font size of the site.
  • If you are using a browser on an Apple computer, on your keyboard, you can hold down the key and press the + key to increase the font size, or hold down the key and press the - key to decrease the font size.

Colour-blind users

We have checked the site font and background colour combinations for the different colour-blindness conditions and ensured that items are not referenced by colour alone. Should you wish to change the colour of text and background by introducing your own style sheet, please follow the instructions in changing the style sheet.
