Responsible investment

Our dedicated team has deep experience in creating responsible investment strategies that reflect our clients’ needs and values.

We practise responsible investment for every mandate, based on four core principles:

As a company with a long-established commitment to business ethics, we share the view of professional intermediaries and their clients that investment decisions can generate strong returns and be a powerful force for good. Together, we can help secure your client’s financial future, while contributing to a more sustainable future for everyone.

A tailored approach

We take an individual approach to each client, so your client’s investment portfolio is carefully constructed to match their objectives. We will also try to accommodate their preference to invest in or leave out particular sectors. We keep a watching brief for companies with higher ESG risks, and seek to identify promising securities through the lens of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and other sustainability criteria.

If your client requires significant stock, sectoral or asset class exclusions because of environmental, social or ethical concerns, we can do this through our specialist in-house investment team, Rathbone Greenbank.

With a thorough understanding of the sustainable investment landscape, our Greenbank specialists only manage ethical, sustainable and impact investments and have done so since 1997. Rathbone Greenbank works with around 2,100 clients across the UK and manages £2.3 billion in investment assets.*

We do business the right way

We are a member of the FTSE4Good Index of companies that meet globally recognised standards of corporate responsibility. We were also an early signatory to the United Nations-backed Principles for Responsible Investment back in 2009.
