David Kness is an Investment Director at Rathbones, based in the firm’s Winchester office. He works closely with private clients, families, trustees, and professional advisers, providing bespoke discretionary investment management aligned to clients’ long term objectives, risk profiles, and tax considerations.
David is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment. His career began in the City of London, before joining Rathbones in 2012. He has received multiple awards in the wealth management industry during his career including Citywealth Investment Director of the Year, Citywealth Investment Manager of the Year (Gold), inclusion in the Citywealth Future Leaders Top 100, PAM Top 40 under 40, and Wealth Manager Top 30 under 30.
David specialises in building and managing tailored investment portfolios, combining individual securities, funds and specialist strategies where appropriate. His approach is underpinned by Rathbones’ in house research and a disciplined investment process, with a strong emphasis on risk management, capital preservation and delivering sustainable long term outcomes.
A key part of David’s role involves working alongside financial advisers and other professional connections, acting as a discretionary investment partner who complements the advice process. He supports advisers with complex client requirements, including retirement planning, trusts, estates, business owners and inter generational wealth, while ensuring portfolios are managed within a robust governance and suitability framework.
David is known for his clear, structured communication and for building long standing client relationships based on trust, transparency and accountability. As a named investment manager, he provides continuity and accessibility, ensuring clients and advisers have direct contact with the individual responsible for investment decisions.
