James Hessey

James joined Rathbones in 2016 where he started his career as a graduate trainee. Prior to this, he worked as a paralegal having completed the Legal Practitioners course. James graduated with a second class honours degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from the University of York and has a master's degree in Political Philosophy. James assists with managing private client portfolios, trusts, charities and self-invested personal pensions (SIPPs). He is a CFA Charterholder and Associate of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment (CISI).

Joel Swift

Joel is an investment manager working with both charities and private clients. He joined the Greenbank team within Rathbones in August 2020 and was awarded the CISI’s Masters level Chartered Wealth Manager qualification in December 2021. He also holds the CFA Certificate in ESG Investing. Joel began his career at BDO LLP, where he spent four years as an auditor. He qualified as an ICAEW ACA Chartered Accountant in September 2019. Prior to this, he read History at Durham University, graduating in 2016.

Andrew Waddell

Andrew is an investment director and has a broad and growing client base. Honours graduate in Political Studies from Aberdeen University, Andrew is a Chartered Accountant, having trained with Chiene & Tait in Edinburgh. After qualifying as a CA, he joined Edinburgh Fund Managers (now part of Standard Life Aberdeen), working as a fund manager within the group's UK small companies team and then its enlarged UK department.

Iain Hooley

Iain was appointed as group chief financial officer on 1 January 2024. Iain served as finance director of Investec Wealth & Investment Limited (IW&I) for more than a decade and was appointed CEO of IW&I UK in February 2023. He brings to his current role his extensive knowledge of the sector along with a wealth of experience of financial and regulatory reporting, corporate governance and risk management.

Clive Bannister

Clive was appointed as chair on 12 January 2021. He started his career as a banker at First National Bank of Boston in 1981 in Boston and London, and in 1984, he joined Booz Allen & Hamilton as an associate and became a partner in the financial consulting practice in 1990.

He has a BSc (Hons) in Business Finance and Economics, and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment. James joined Rathbones in 1990 after spending a number of years working at Sheppards.

Max Wallace-Jones

I work in a team made up of portfolio managers and support personnel. The core role I undertake is the management of personal investment portfolios, personal pensions (SIPP's) and medium and smaller sized charities. I am also a member of the investment policy committee, chairing this periodically, as this committee is a key element of the asset allocation and construction of client investment portfolios.

George Hunt

George is responsible for developing new business and maintains relationships with existing clients and introducers of clients. George's clients comprise of individuals, pensions, IHT solutions, Charities and Trusts.

Dougal Fraser

I specialise in managing investment portfolios for families, personal pensions, trusts and charities. I enjoy meeting my clients, either at our office or at their homes, and on a regular basis which helps to form strong and lasting relationships with each of them. I take an active interest in the management of their capital, so my clients understand who makes the decisions on their behalf. I am a Chartered Fellow of the Securities Institute and hold the Securities Institute Diploma, having qualified in 1994.

Alistair Beattie

Alistair began his career at Gerrard Vivien Gray in 1996, before joining Brewin Dolphin in 1997, where he spent 23 years managing investments on behalf of private clients, financial advisers, charities and trusts. Alistair joined Rathbones in 2020 as an investment director and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment and a Chartered Wealth Manager.

Brogan Sealey
