Alastair Childs
Investment director
London Alastair.Childs@rathbones.comAlastair is an investment director and a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment.
Alastair has spent his entire working career in private client investment management in London, starting in 1984 at Vickers da Costa. Alastair joined Laurence Keen, which subsequently became part of Rathbones, in 1992.

Glasgow Alastair.Hunt@rathbones.comAlastair is an investment director and Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment. He manages portfolios for a wide range of clients including private individuals, trusts and charities. His particular areas of interest include macroeconomics, technical analysis and alternative asset classes.
Alastair graduated from Durham University with an honours degree in Engineering. His financial career began at KPMG and Blackadders solicitors’ investment department before joining Speirs & Jeffrey in 2004. Speirs & Jeffrey was fully integrated with Rathbones in July 2019.
Alastair McLean

Glasgow Alastair.McLean@rathbones.comAlastair is a Chartered Wealth Manager and Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment. He has a law degree from The University of Dundee as well as an MBA from the University of Strathclyde Graduate School of Business.
He joined James Finlay Investment Management in 1987 where he worked as an investment manager until the company was acquired by Brewin Dolphin in 1996 where he served as a divisional director until joining Rathbones in 2015.
Alastair has over 25 years of experience in private client investment management. He grew up in England but was educated in Scotland and works across the UK with a diverse client base specialising in the management of family wealth. He has long experience in collectives management as well as direct equity and bond market investment.
He is a trustee of the Scottish Cot Death Trust.
Alex Clay
Investment director
Chichester Alex.Clay@rathbones.comAlex joined Rathbones as an investment director in 2002 and manages a large portfolio of high net worth private clients, their SIPPs and associated trusts. He started his investment career in London over 30 years ago at Henderson Administration where he trained. He subsequently helped establish the private client fund management department within Murray Johnstone before moving to Premier Asset Management.
Alex is a Chartered Wealth Manager and a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investments.
Alex Dow
Investment director
London Alexander.Dow@rathbones.comAlex is an investment director, he has a joint honours degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from UEA. Alex is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments, holding the Diploma, and is also a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder.
Prior to joining Rathbones in December 2007, Alex worked at HSBC Investments (formerly James Capel) for eight years managing investment portfolios for charities and private clients. At HSBC Alex was a member of the UK Stock Committee and specifically covered the engineering, aerospace and defence sectors.
Alex Moore
Head of collectives
London Alex.Moore@rathbones.comAlex is head of collectives research for Rathbones. He is responsible for carrying out quantitative and qualitative analysis to select funds for recommended use within portfolios managed at Rathbones across different asset classes and strategies. He sits on Rathbone’s Collectives Research Committees and also assists the Rathbone multi-asset portfolios team with their collectives’ investments.
Alex joined Rathbones in May 2015. Prior to joining, he worked for the British Steel Pension Fund and Dimensional Fund Advisors, specialising in Asia-Pacific and Emerging Markets equity portfolio management. Alex graduated from the University of Durham with a BA (Hons) in Economics. He holds the Investment Management Certificate, is a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment, and is a CFA charterholder.
Alex Richmond

Liverpool Alex.Richmond@rathbones.comAlex is director of tax at Rathbones and has been advising private clients and business owners for 20 years. He specialises in providing capital gains and inheritance tax advice and has a wide range of experience in all areas of private trust work.
Alex Turnbull
Investment director
London Alex.Turnbull@rathbones.comAlex is an investment director, his main focus is in managing assets for the not for profit, pension and corporate sector with a bias towards structuring segregated asset portfolios. He has particular expertise in corporate debt and equities, and where possible has a preference for direct investment of these asset classes. He chairs the Charity Asset Allocation and Stock Committee and also sits on the UK Equity and Fixed Income Committee for the Investment Management division of Rathbones.
Alex is Chartered Fellow of the Securities Institute and holds the Securities Institute Diploma, having qualified in 1989. Prior to joining Rathbones in 2008, he spent 20 years at HSBC Global Asset Management (formerly James Capel) where he was responsible for developing and leading the successful Charity division.
Alex Welsh

Alex joined Rathbones after 10 years a with a regional Chartered Financial Planning and Accountancy practice based in West Sussex.
Being a Chartered Financial Planner and one of the few in the UK to be accredited by the legal body Resolution, he has a depth of experience in all areas of planning for every life stage. This ranges from tax efficient investing to retirement planning to estate and long-term care planning.
Working alongside an accountancy practice for many years, Alex has a strong understanding of tax and trust legislation, as well as extensive knowledge of the pensions system which has seen him act as expert witness for the courts on a number of occasions as well as mentoring colleagues. In 2015, he was named in the UK’s top 35 financial advisers aged under 35.
Alex is passionate about getting to know his clients, building lasting relationships providing a friendly, personable service. He most enjoys helping clients understand complex financial matters by making them seem simple, explaining concepts in relatable and meaningful terms.
Alexander Gudiens

London Alexander.Gudiens@rathbones.comAlex is a Chartered Financial Planner, a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society and also holds the Investment Management Certificate (CFA). He joined Rathbones in 2019 and has significant knowledge and experience in providing the advice and direction which enables clients to meet their financial goals.
Alex helps on a broad range of areas including investment structuring, wealth preservation, retirement planning and legacy planning.
Previously, Alex managed the financial planning team at Kleinwort Benson and was awarded “Best Wealth Planning Team” at the WealthBriefing European Awards, 2017.
Alexandra Jackson
Fund manager
London Alexandra.Jackson@rathbones.comAlexandra is the manager of the Rathbone UK Opportunities Fund. Previously she was co-manager of the Rathbone Recovery Fund, appointed in June 2014, and has spent nearly 15 years with Rathbones.
Alexandra joined Rathbone Unit Trust Management in 2007 as an equity analyst, and then became assistant fund manager on the Rathbone Global Opportunities Fund.
Alexandra is a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) charter-holder and holds the Investment Management Certificate. She has a BA (Hons) in Economics from the University of Durham.
Alfie Hayes
Sales manager, Greater London
London Alfie.Hayes@rathbones.comAlfie is Sales Manager for Greater London working alongside our Team in London as well as Andy Austin and Peter Hooker in the East of England. He is a key point of contact for IFAs, brokers and DFM clients.
Before joining Rathbones in 2016, Alfie worked as a broker at BGC for 4 years and spent a year at Franklin Templeton on the Sales Desk.
Alfie holds a BA (Hons) Politics degree from the University of Leeds.
Alfie Saunders
Assistant investment manager
London Alfie.Saunders@rathbones.comAlfie is an assistant investment manager supporting Peter Thomson and Jason Toole with discretionary portfolio management, investment selection and client relationships. The team specialises in domestic, offshore and international clients, SEC private clients, Charitable mandates, pension schemes and trusts.
He joined Rathbones in September 2018 having graduated from the University of Brighton with a BSc (Hons) in Finance and Investment. After completing the Rathbones graduate programme in 2020 he joined the team full time.
Alfie has completed the CFA UK Investment Management Certificate, CISI Securities exam and is currently studying towards becoming a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
Alistair Beattie

London Alistair.Beattie@rathbones.comAlistair began his career at Gerrard Vivien Gray in 1996, before joining Brewin Dolphin in 1997, where he spent 23 years managing investments on behalf of private clients, financial advisers, charities and trusts.
Alistair joined Rathbones in 2020 as an investment director and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment and a Chartered Wealth Manager.
Alistair Crichton

Glasgow Alistair.Crichton@rathbones.comAlistair graduated from the University of Stirling in 2011 with an honours degree in Business Law. After an internship at a small fund management business in Glasgow, he joined HSBC’s Global Fund Pricing team in 2012. During his five years at HSBC, Alistair undertook his CISI Investment qualifications.
In May 2017, Alistair joined Speirs & Jeffrey where he worked initially as a suitability manager before moving to the investment team in 2018. He works closely with Graham Waddell and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment. Speirs & Jeffrey was fully integrated with Rathbones in July 2019.
Amelia Bell
Solicitor
London Amelia.Bell@rathbones.comAmelia joined Rathbones in June 2019, having previously worked at Russell-Cooke LLP in their private client team. She qualified as a solicitor in 2016, having trained at a Legal 500 firm in Wiltshire.
Amelia advises on all aspects of private client law including drafting and advising on trusts, powers of attorney, succession planning including drafting complex wills, and estate administration.
She has a particular interest in art and achieved a distinction in her LLM in Art, Business and Law.
Amos Nelson

Bristol Amos.Nelson@rathbones.comAmos works closely with James Fox in the management of investment portfolios for private clients, charities and self-invested personal pensions.
He is a graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of Bristol and currently holds the Masters in Wealth Management and the Investment Management and Financial Planning Certificates.
Amos is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment and sits on our Collectives Research Committee.
Amy Kirby
Investment manager
London Amy.Kirby@rathbones.comAmy joined Rathbones in 2013. She manages private client and Personal Injury & Court of Protection portfolios. Amy is a member of the Rathbones Fixed Income Collectives Committee.
She is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment, having obtained the Chartered Wealth Manager qualification in 2017. In doing so, she became the youngest person to achieve this qualification aged 21. Amy also holds the CII Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning. Amy was the winner of the Rising Talent Award at the 2021 PIMFA Diversity & Inclusion Awards.
