28 May 2026 | Rathbones, one of the UK’s leading wealth and asset management groups, has established a Responsible Investment Centre of Excellence to help deliver strong long-term value for clients across sustainability research, stewardship and ESG integration.
The Centre will operate across the Group, bringing together all of Rathbones’ long-established responsible investment expertise to enable better client outcomes, in support of its purpose “to help more clients invest their money well, so they can live well”. It also underscores Rathbones’ long-term commitment to responsible and sustainable investing, while creating a platform for future innovation in a fast-changing landscape.

The Centre of Excellence consolidates Rathbones’ ethical and sustainable research capabilities to provide greater visibility of responsible investment activity across the Group and to ensure that sustainability insights are available to help inform investment decisions in pursuit of long-term value.

The Centre will provide dedicated support across Rathbones Asset Management investment strategies, as well as to the wider Rathbones wealth business, strengthening the link between ESG expertise and portfolio outcomes and enhancing the ability to identify long‑term risks and opportunities.
At the heart of the Centre of Excellence is a team of 16 dedicated specialists, structured across three complementary disciplines:
- Voting, Stewardship and Engagement
Leveraging Rathbones’ position as a long‑term investor to engage with investee companies on material ESG issues. The focus is on aligning corporate behaviour with clients’ long-term interests and on encouraging stronger management of both asset-specific and systemic risks, including climate change, governance standards, and social factors.
- Ethical and Sustainable Research
This capability supports the alignment of investments with client values through in‑depth analysis of how companies and assets influence, and are influenced by, key sustainability themes. Long‑term thematic research undertaken by the team contributes to idea generation, enhances conviction and supports risk mitigation across strategies.
- ESG Integration
Provides investment professionals with clear, decision‑relevant data and insights. By translating complex ESG information into practical investment inputs, the team helps identify material risks and opportunities and strengthens the robustness of the overall investment process.
The Responsible Investment Centre of Excellence will strengthen Rathbones’ stewardship and engagement, coordinating and amplifying the Group’s voice with investee companies and other stakeholders. It also reinforces Rathbones’ longstanding commitment to be a responsible, active long‑term investor.
