My particular research covers European and UK equity third party managers and, as with all regions, the intention is to identify best in class fund managers that can deliver exceptional risk-adjusted returns over the long term. We place a lot of emphasis on qualitative research and that involves meeting fund managers and gleaning information that cannot be learnt from readily available performance data, factsheets or presentations. Meeting fund managers who operate with different philosophies is one of the fascinating parts of the job as they typically exhibit very different viewpoints on the outlooks for individual stocks and industries. We aim to provide our clients with a range of different and complementary investment strategies, covering different investment styles and market cap exposures. Comparing, contrasting and making relative assessments on funds is a key part of my day to day role.
