Agenda:

1.45pm – 2.00pm – Arrival.

2.00pm – Welcome. Andy Pitt – Head of Charities, Rathbones.

2.10pm – 2.55pm – Finance function for the future. Sharon Monteith - Accounting and Financial Reporting Director, RSM UK.

The pandemic has transformed many areas of charity operations. However, it does not appear to have significantly affected charity finance management. This is surprising given the findings of the Charity Digital Skills Report 2023, which showed that 65% of charities have adopted a hybrid working model, and 23% work entirely remotely. Join us to explore key areas to consider in relation to the transformation of your charity's finance function and how to future proof it.

2.55pm – 3.40pm – Investing for the next decade. Adam Hoyes – Asset Allocation Analyst and Olivia Marlow – Investment Director, Rathbones.

The next decade for the global economy will look very different to the 2010s, even as the immediate impact of the pandemic and war in Ukraine continues to fade. This session will explore how the opportunities in fixed income have changed; and the possible outlook for equities, and why we believe the extraordinary outperformance of the US could end.

3.55pm – 4.40pm – Adapting to digital change: building resilient charities for the future. Vinay Nair – CEO & Founder, Lightful.

In today’s fast-changing digital world, adapting is essential for charities looking to increase their impact. This session will focus on practical ways to build digital resilience, highlighting how charities can use digital tools to improve storytelling, fundraising, audience engagement, and service delivery. Drawing on real-life examples and insights from Lightful’s successful programmes in the UK and internationally, the session will explore how organisations, including the smallest charities just beginning their digital journey, can benefit. Attendees will leave with practical ideas on how to support the sector in becoming more resilient and capable, ensuring they are ready to navigate the opportunities and challenges ahead. This session is tailored for trustees who are interested in digital transformation but may be new to the topic, providing clear, easy-to-understand guidance.

4.40pm – 5.25pm – Redefining wealth - do we need a fresh approach to understanding wealth generation? Max Richardson, Senior Director, Investec Wealth & Investment UK (now part of Rathbones Group).

As the global financial system comes to terms with systemic risks such as climate change, nature loss and social inequality, do we need a fresh approach to understanding wealth generation? Is wealth just the money in our pocket or should we acknowledge our economy's dependence on healthy social and environmental foundations? What are natural and social capital and what services do they provide? This discussion will include insights from Max's experience teaching this topic at post-graduate level and to colleagues and clients at Rathbones.

5.25pm – Close – Andy Pitt – Head of Charities, Rathbones

5.30pm – 6.30pm – Networking drinks
