Jane Sydenham

Jane Sydenham is an investment director, specialising in the management of portfolios for individuals, family groups and their associated trusts, charities and pension funds.

Jane is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment. She is also a member of Rathbones Asset allocation committee responsible for communicating Rathbones investment views and recommendations to clients and the media,appearing regularly on the Today programme on BBC Radio 4,as well as Wake up to Money on BBC Radio 5. Jane also contributes to the FT,Times and other titles on issues relevant to private clients.

Jane started her career with mid sized private client firm Montagu Loebl Stanley in 1987,before a takeover by Robert Fleming,in 1989 .Jane became a Director of Fleming Private Asset Management in 1999,and joined Rathbones in 2001 following a takeover of Robert Fleming by Chase Manhattan,and a subsequent merger with JPMorgan.

 

Jane Wilcock

Jane is an investment director working with both Greenbank and the London Charities team. She graduated in 1998 with an honours degree in Economics from Nottingham University and is a chartered fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment and a Chartered Wealth Manager.

She trained at Tilney in Liverpool, managing portfolios for private clients, trusts, pensions and charities, before moving to Brown Shipley & Co, where she became a voting member of the firm’s Investment Policy Committee, providing equity research and guidance for the wider firm, and was involved in managing the in-house UK equity funds.

Jane joined Barclays’ portfolio management team in 2008 where she became a specialist in managing bespoke and ethical portfolios on behalf of Charity clients, and was a voting member of Barclays UK Equity Committee and the Charity Investment Committee.

Jason Dalley

Jason looks after charities, individual clients and their families. He also manages trusts, pension funds and companies. He is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment, where he also sits on the committee for the Wealth Management Professional Interest Forum.

Jason started at Killik & Co. in 1994, after serving seven years as a Light Dragoon in the British Army. He moved to Ely Fund Managers in 1998 and joined Rathbones in 2006 when they acquired assets from Ely’s parent company, Dexia BIL. Jason was educated at RMA, Sandhurst and RMCS, Shrivenham (Cranfield).

Outside of work, Jason is a keen rugby supporter and coaches a junior team at Devizes RFC. He enjoys theatre, the Arts and Radio 4, and is a member of the Clifton Club and the Cavalry and Guards Club. He is also a charity volunteer and active member of the development committee for the Community Foundation for Wiltshire & Swindon.

Jason Toole

Jason Toole began his investment career at Vivian Gray & Co, which went on to become Greig Middleton and later merged to form Gerrard Ltd, and was a member of one of the leading private client teams. In 2004, Jason joined Taylor Young Investment Management Ltd as a senior investment manager managing a large and diverse client base, which included running OEIC funds.

Jason is an investment director at Rathbones and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment and a Chartered Wealth Manager.

Jeremy Newman

Jeremy joined Rathbones in June 2014. Previously he was head of the London office of Tilney Private Wealth Management when Deutsche Bank acquired the business in 2006. He joined Tilney in 1989 from Chase Manhattan Securities and has over 30 years’ experience in the industry.

A Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment, Jeremy leads a team of 9 investment professionals and support staff who are managing private client, trust and charity clients with a heavy focus on the direct investment style.

Jeremy Stanyer is an investment director, holding a BA Hons degree in Accountancy and Finance from Humberside University and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.

Jeremy joined Rathbones in November 2010 after managing private client portfolios at Williams de Broe in Bournemouth. He began career at Walker Crips Weddle Beck in the summer of 1987 and has worked at Cazenove, Laing & Cruickshank and for the last 13 years at Williams de Broe on the South Coast.

Jing is an Asset Allocation Analyst at Rathbones, supporting the Head of Asset Allocation Research as well the Strategic Asset Allocation Committee in maintaining and improving Rathbones' top down investment process.

Jing joined the firm in February 2017, before which she worked as an investment analyst for the investment arm of Arbuthnot Latham, a London based boutique private bank. She spent over three years at Arbuthnot, learning and contributing in areas of fund selection, thematic research and client support.

Jing holds two economics and business related degrees, a distinction in MSc Financial Analysis and Fund Management from Exeter University, and she is a CFA® charterholder.

Jo Sword

Jo Sword is an investment director and has over 25 years of experience in private client investment management looking after individuals, trusts, charities and Self Invested Personal Pensions (SIPPs). She is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment, and has a joint honours degree in Economics and Agricultural Economics from Nottingham University. Prior to joining Rathbones in June 2006, she worked for 21 years at Kleinwort Benson where she was a director in the Private Bank.

Joe Crehan

Joe joined Rathbone Greenbank in November 2014.  He has a BSc (Hons) in Physics and Philosophy from Bristol University and is a fully qualified teacher, having completed the Teach First Leadership Development Programme. 
Joe has been awarded the CISI level 4 Investment Advice Diploma and is an associate member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment. 

John Billing

John joined Rathbones in 2010, having previously worked in both the legal and accountancy professions.  He primarily deals with the administration of trusts (in some cases as one of the trustees) and also prepares personal tax returns. 

John is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.

John David is head of Rathbone Greenbank Investments and is an investment director. In addition to managing bespoke private client and charity portfolios, John also sits on Rathbones’ Social and Environmental and Corporate Governance Committees.

John is a graduate of Exeter University and is a chartered fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment. He began his financial career in 1997 with UBS Warburg in London before moving to Bristol to join Greig Middleton. He joined Rathbones in 2001 and was a founder member of Rathbone Greenbank.

John Duffy

John Duffy is a tax and trust consultant working in Liverpool for Rathbones, offering tax planning advice, administration and accountancy services to trustees, individuals and corporate entities.

John has extensive experience in the trust and taxation field having previously occupied consultant roles at chartered accountancy practices in London and Liverpool.

John has an honours degree in accountancy and is also a qualified member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) and Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners (STEP). As part of his ongoing commitment to technical development, John sits on the STEP Liverpool Branch Committee.

John Grout-Smith

Johnny joined Rathbones Winchester in 2005, before making the move to us in 2012. He manages portfolios for private individuals and their SIPPs, as well as for a number of charities.

Johnny’s career began on the trading floor in the eighties with stockjobbers Akroyd and Smithers, and then private client brokers Henry Cooke Lumsden. When they were acquired by Brown Shipley, he stayed on for another six years before joining Rathbones Winchester, later transferring to Chichester to be closer to where he grew up. Johnny is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investments.

John Gunn

John Gunn has been an investment director in Rathbones' Edinburgh office since July 2000 and he manages a large number of private client portfolios. Prior to that date, he spent seven years as a vice president for Merrill Lynch International Private Banking where, amongst other things, he was responsible for helping to set up and run the Edinburgh Office. Before this he worked at Coutts in London as a financial services manager.

John McDougall

John McDougall is an Equity Analyst and provides buy-side support to fund managers at Rathbones.

John joined Rathbones in June 2012 having previously worked at Deloitte in Corporate Finance. He is a Mathematics graduate from the University of York and has an MSc with Distinction in Financial Mathematics. He sits on various investment committees including the Stock Selection Committee and predominantly covers large and midcap UK equities. John is a member of the CFA Institute.

John is a Senior Manager at Rathbones with more than 28 years’ experience within the financial services industry. Over the last 10 years he has held senior roles within the Financial Planning arms of both FTSE100 and AIM listed companies.
He is responsible for the growth and development of the Financial Planning team, not only in London but across the Regional Offices. John is a Chartered Financial Planner and a member of the Chartered Institute of Insurance.

Jon Liddiard is an investment director. His clients consist of private individuals, charities, trusts and personal pensions. He is a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment. Jon's career started on the floor of the Stock Exchange with Greene & Co in 1981. In 1985 he joined Sheppards & Chase and remained with them for over 21 years and through several mergers until moving to Rathbones.

Jonathan Brock

Jonathan joined Rathbones in 2011 and provides discretionary management for private clients, pensions, trusts and charity portfolios.  He started his investment career at JP Morgan in 2007 and prior to joining Rathbones, worked at Newton assisting in the management of private client portfolios. 

Jonathan graduated from the University of St Andrews in 2007 with a 2:1 in Economics & Management and is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.  He holds both the Investment Management Certificate (IMC) and the CISI Level 7 Masters in Wealth Management.

Jonathan Giles is managing director of Rathbone Investment Management International, he manages a range of private client, trust and charity portfolios and for the past five years has been included in the Citywealth Honours List, which recognises professionals in the private wealth management industry who have ‘technical expertise, trusted status, integrity and reputation’. He is also an Adjunct Lecturer at the Jersey International Business School. Jonathan has 30 years’ private client management experience, is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and chairs the company’s Investment Committee and also sits on the Rathbone Strategic Asset Allocation Committee. He joined Rathbone Investment Management International in January 2006.

Jonathan Hill is an Investment Director, joining Rathbones in March 2011.  He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment and has been managing investments for a wide range of Private Individuals, Trusts, SIPPs and Charities since 1983. 

Jonathan originally started his city career as a jobber with Wedd Durlacher Mordaunt before moving across to stockbroking with Henderson Crosthwaite in 1983.  Jonathan managed the Horsham office for Henderson Crosthwaite for a number of years before returning to London shortly before the firm merged to become Carr Sheppards Crosthwaite.  He moved to Teather & Greenwood in 2001, and thereafter experienced a number of changes of ownership before resigning from BNP Paribas to join Rathbones.

Joseph McLoughlin

Joe McLoughlin has 16 years financial industry experience. Working previously for Tilney Investment Mgt in their Trade Settlements team, before joining Rathbones in 2003 as Corporate Actions administrator.

Joe is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investments, having attained his Diploma in 2011. Joe works closely in a team with Investment Directors - Brian Kenny & Nick Shaw, managing private client, Trust and Charity assets.

Julian Chillingworth

Julian is Rathbones’ Chief Investment Officer, and therefore plays a key role in the ongoing development of the organisation’s investment process. Prior to this, Julian was assigned Board Director of Rathbone Unit Trust Management in October 2001, and joined Rathbones in July 2001 as deputy Chief Investment Director.

Julian is also a member of Rathbones’ Investment Executive Committee. He has over 30 year’s investment experience, gained within organisations such as James Capel, Global Asset Management, Bankers Trust and Investec Asset Management

Julian Longton is an investment director and manages a wide range of private client, family trust, personal pension and charity portfolios. Julian achieved the Securities Industry Diploma in 1997 having joined A H Cobbold & Co in 1986. In October 2010 Julian became a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.

After graduating from Edinburgh University in 1994 with an MA (Hons) in Geography (2:1), Julian joined Price Waterhouse, now PWC. On qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, he then joined Rathbones in 1997. He is now also a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.

At Rathbones, Julian specialises in the management of charities and private clients and is head of Charities in Liverpool. He sits on the Charity Asset Allocation and Stock Selection Committees. In addition he sits on the Risk Management Committee and the Group Client Committee. He is a trustee of several charities and a regular speaker at charity seminars.

Outside of work Julian enjoys keeping fit, tennis, cycling and skiing as well as a busy family life.

Julian Stapleton

Julian is an Investment Sales Executive, working alongside Karl Heap in developing relationships with IFA’s. He specialises in discretionary fund management and multi-asset investment solutions for the intermediary market.

He joined Rathbones in February 2008, working initially on the advisory side of the business where he qualified as a Chartered Financial Planner, before moving across to the Distribution team in January 2015.

Julian holds an LLB (Hons.) Law degree from Lancaster University.

Julian Whately

Julian Whately qualified as a solicitor in 1974 and has practised since then, initially as a property lawyer. He joined Rathbones in 2009 as a private client specialist with a particular focus on landed estates.

Julian is an executor of a number of Wills, a trustee of many trusts, and brought with him to Rathbones his own following of clients, many of whom he has advised for a number of years.

Julie Smith is an Investment Manager, managing investment portfolios on behalf of private clients, trusts, charities and pensions.  Julie is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Securities and Investment Institute, completing her Diploma in December 2007.

Julie joined Rathbones in July 2015 following nearly 9 years with Brewin Dolphin and 5 1/2 years with Aberdeen Asset Managers in Trainee and Investment Manager roles.

Aswell as Julie’s CISI Diploma, her qualifications also include the Investment Management Certificate, Financial Planning Certificates 1, 2 and 3, and a Degree in Commerce.

Justin Armet

Justin Armet is an Investment Director and has a broad range of investment mandates including those for private clients, SIPPs, Trusts, and local charities. Justin is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment, an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland and holds the Private Client Investment Advice & Management (PCIAM) which is a CISI Level 6 qualification.

Justin started his career in Investment Management in 1988 with Bank of Scotland, initially as a trainee Investment Manager. During his time with Bank of Scotland he was also responsible for developing & marketing the service. He joined Rathbones Edinburgh Office in 2010 following the acquisition of the Bank of Scotland business from Lloyds.

Justine Peck is an investment director specialising in the management of private client, SIPP and trust portfolios, and manages investments for a number of local charities. Justine is a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and has worked for Rathbones and predecessor companies since joining the firm in 1988.

Kate Elliot

Kate is a senior ethical researcher for Rathbone Greenbank, responsible for assessing the social and environmental performance of companies in addition to monitoring emerging ethical themes. She also helps co-ordinate Rathbone Greenbank’s stewardship and engagement activities. Since 2014, Kate has served on the Admissions Panel for the Social Stock Exchange, helping to assess and identify companies delivering social or environmental impact. She joined Rathbones in 2007 after graduating from the University of Bristol with a Masters in philosophy and mathematics.
