Julian Longton

Julian Longton is an investment director and manages a wide range of private client, family trust, personal pension and charity portfolios. Julian achieved the Securities Industry Diploma in 1997 having joined A H Cobbold & Co in 1986. In October 2010 Julian became a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.

After graduating from Edinburgh University in 1994 with an MA (Hons) in Geography (2:1), Julian joined Price Waterhouse, now PWC. On qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, he then joined Rathbones in 1997. He is now also a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.

At Rathbones, Julian specialises in the management of charities and private clients and is head of Charities in Liverpool. He sits on the Charity Asset Allocation and Stock Selection Committees. In addition he sits on the Risk Management Committee and the Group Client Committee. He is a trustee of several charities and a regular speaker at charity seminars.

Outside of work Julian enjoys keeping fit, tennis, cycling and skiing as well as a busy family life.

Julian Stapleton

Julian is an Investment Sales Executive, working on developing relationships with IFA’s. He specialises in discretionary fund management and multi-asset investment solutions for the intermediary market.

He joined Rathbones in February 2008, working initially on the advisory side of the business where he qualified as a Chartered Financial Planner, before moving across to the Distribution team in January 2015.

Julian holds an LLB (Hons.) Law degree from Lancaster University.

Julian Whately qualified as a solicitor in 1974 and has practised since then, initially as a property lawyer. He joined Rathbones in 2014 and now specialises in private client work with a particular focus on landed estates.

Julian is an executor of a number of Wills, a trustee of many trusts, and brought with him to Rathbones his own following of clients, many of whom he has advised for a number of years.

Julie Smith

Julie Smith is an Investment Manager, managing investment portfolios on behalf of private clients, trusts, charities and pensions.  Julie is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Securities and Investment Institute, completing her Diploma in December 2007.

Julie joined Rathbones in July 2015 following nearly 9 years with Brewin Dolphin and 5 1/2 years with Aberdeen Asset Managers in Trainee and Investment Manager roles.

Aswell as Julie’s CISI Diploma, her qualifications also include the Investment Management Certificate, Financial Planning Certificates 1, 2 and 3, and a Degree in Commerce.

Justin Armet

Justin Armet is an Investment Director and has a broad range of investment mandates including those for private clients, SIPPs, Trusts, and local charities. Justin is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment, an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland and holds the Private Client Investment Advice & Management (PCIAM) which is a CISI Level 6 qualification.

Justin started his career in Investment Management in 1988 with Bank of Scotland, initially as a trainee Investment Manager. During his time with Bank of Scotland he was also responsible for developing & marketing the service. He joined Rathbones Edinburgh Office in 2010 following the acquisition of the Bank of Scotland business from Lloyds.

Justine has a vast experience investing private client portfolios having been with Rathbones for more than thirty years. She is a respected member of our firm and sits on our Investment Executive Committee as well as the IFA Investment Committee.  She acts as Regional Co-ordinator for IFA relationships across the South, recognising the importance of a holistic approach to clients’ finances. 

Justine is active in the local area and as deputy head of Rathbones’ Winchester office she heads up our annual carol concert in the historic setting of Winchester Cathedral among other events.  Many of Justine’s clients have invested with her for several generations and she sees her role as more than just managing investments. She is passionate about getting to know families and helping them grow over the years to meet both their investment goals and life ambitions.

Kate Elliot

Kate is a senior ethical researcher for Rathbone Greenbank, responsible for assessing the social and environmental performance of companies in addition to monitoring emerging ethical themes. She also helps co-ordinate Rathbone Greenbank’s stewardship and engagement activities. Since 2014, Kate has served on the Admissions Panel for the Social Stock Exchange, helping to assess and identify companies delivering social or environmental impact. She joined Rathbones in 2007 after graduating from the University of Bristol with a Masters in philosophy and mathematics.

Kate Palmer

Kate is an investment manager based in the Winchester office.

Her career began in London with Bordier UK (formerly Berry Asset Management) where she was responsible for managing portfolios for private clients, personal pension funds and trusts. She spent 10 years at Bordier before joining Rathbones in 2016.  

Kate is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and holds the Masters in Wealth Management. She graduated from the University of Manchester with an honours degree in Economics.

Kate works within the team as an investment analyst. She joined Rathbones in September 2012, having worked as a senior analyst at UBS. Originally from Canada, Kate has over thirty years of investment experience, both as a fund manager and an analyst, focussing for much of that time on North American equities. A graduate of the University of Toronto, Kate holds the Securities and Investment Institute, Certificate of Securities and is a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) charter-holder.

Kate Shepherd joined Rathbone Greenbank in November 2010 and she holds an MSc in finance and investment from the University of Bristol. Kate has been awarded the Investment Advice Diploma and is an associate member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment.

Keith MacKenzie is an investment director, responsible for managing a number of portfolios for private individuals, personal pensions, trusts and charities.

He is a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and holds an honours degree in Business Studies. Prior to joining Rathbones in May 2012, Keith spent four years working as an investment manager for Williams De Broe in Edinburgh having previously worked for Gerrards and Barclays Wealth.

Kerry is a trust manager joining Rathbone Trust Company in 1997. Kerry heads a team whose wealth of experience can provide trustees with trust taxation, inheritance tax compliance, accountancy and administration services for all types of trust funds. The team works closely with the Trust Company’s personal tax specialists to ensure beneficiaries receive the most tax efficient service possible.

Within the team there are probate specialists who can assist executors by obtaining probate, liaising with HM Revenue & Customs on all areas of tax compliance, preparing estate accounts and full administration services.

Kerry specialises in charity structures and as a charity trustee herself understands the responsibility this brings. Kerry is able to assist trustees with their compliance, including preparation of all types of charity accounts. She has many years of experience and is an associate member of the Association of Charity Independent Examiners. Members of her team can also help trustees with their administration, tailoring a service to suit the charity’s structure and governance.

Kerry is a Member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), a Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (MCISI) and a Member of the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT).

Kerry qualified as a solicitor in 2013, having trained with a Surrey based Legal 500 Firm of solicitors, and joined Rathbones in 2014. She advises on Wills and estate planning, powers of attorney, probate and estate administration as well as trust matters.

Kerry is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.

Kevin Custis

Kevin Custis is a director of Rathbone Trust Company Limited and specialises in trust creation, administration and associated tax advice, together with long experience of estate and personal tax planning and executorship work.

Prior to joining Rathbones in 2001 Kevin was a director of Kleinwort Benson Trustees Limited and before that a trust administrator with a leading firm of solicitors and a trust accountant with a leading firm of chartered accountants in London. Kevin is a registered trust and estate practitioner, Legal Executive and the chair of the London Central Branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) whist serving on a number of London and nationwide STEP committees.

Kevin has been a contributing author to the Lexis Nexis Butterworth Tolley reference publications on the administration of estates and trust drafting and precedents where his subjects cover inheritance, income, and capital gains taxes, trust accounting and trust documentation. Other related positions include serving as trustee and treasurer to a number of national and local charities, and lecturing and writing on trust and estate related topics.

Kindar Brown

Kindar joined Rathbones in 2019 with over 20 years’ experience.

Kindar is one of a relatively small number of advisers in the UK to hold both the Chartered Financial Planner designation from the Personal Finance Society and the internationally recognised Certified Financial Planner certification from the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment. She is also a qualified financial neutral through Consensus Collaboration Scotland which allows her to act in collaborative divorce cases.

Kindar is very experienced in providing clients with a holistic financial planning service including advice on matters such as tax efficient wealth structuring, retirement income planning, Inheritance Tax and estate planning. She has a particular interest in cashflow modelling and providing clients with the peace of mind to live their lives the way they want, unburdened by financial worries. Kindar is passionate about the benefits financial planning can offer clients and she truly enjoys being involved in a clients’ financial planning journey and the peace of mind it can bring.

Kirstie joined Rathbones in February 2013 having worked for Lloyds TSB Private Banking and Lloyds TSB Independent Financial Advisers for 25 years.  She gained Fellowship of the Personal Finance Society in 2008 and specialises in providing holistic Financial Planning to High Net Worth individuals and companies on pensions, investments, protection, and tax planning matters.

Lee Barter is an investment manager and a Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.  Lee joined Rathbones from Barclays Wealth and has over 15 years experience within the private client investment management industry. In recent years he has worked at BlackRock in the Charities division and managed private client portfolios for a number of years at Rensburg Sheppards . 

Libby Barrett

Libby Barrett joined Rathbones in 2012, after graduating from Bristol University with a first class honours degree in chemistry. She is an Associate of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment, having obtained the Investment Advice Diploma, and is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charterholder.

Libby specialises in managing the investments and administration of charity and private client portfolios. Within Rathbones she sits on the Developed Equities Committee, specialising in the selection of North American funds. Libby is a trustee in her own right.

Linda Cousins

Linda Cousins is trust director, joining Rathbone Trust Company Limited in March 2000 from Kleinwort Benson Private Bank. Linda is an associate of the Institute of Bankers and completed the old style Trustee Diploma, beginning her career at National Westminster Bank in 1974. At Kleinwort Benson Linda was responsible for the trusts and financial affairs of the founding families and more recently having overall responsibility for the trustee department.

Lindsay Strachan

Lindsay Strachan has over 30 years experience of catering for the investment needs of high net worth individuals, trusts, charities and self invested personal pension accounts. 

He has a broad experience of the investment industry having started his working life with Friends Provident Life and Pensions and moving on to be a Senior Divisional Director with Brewin Dolphin.

A Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments, Lindsay is at the forefront of the establishment of the new Rathbones office in Glasgow.

Ling is a Smaller Companies Analyst who joined Rathbones in 2018 from Adam & Company, where she was an Associate Director in the Investment Team for 10 years.  She is responsible for providing individual stock research for smaller companies with a focus on AIM listed companies.

Prior to Rathbones, Ling worked at various investment houses including Aberdeen Asset Management, SVM Asset Management and Franklin Templeton Investments. She has also worked as a research analyst for a hedge fund in New York.

Ling holds a degree in Science Studies, where she majored in Mathematics, Statistics and Finance from the University of Strathclyde and has a Masters in Management Science from the University of Kent.  She also holds diploma in Customer Relationship Management from the Chartered Institute of Bankers Scotland and has completed her Investment Management Certificate and Private Client Investment Advice and Management Certificate.

Lloyd is a fully qualified Financial Planner and member of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), as well as holding the certificate in Discretionary Investment Management. He has recently re-joined Rathbones after a stint working elsewhere, where he spent time advising clients on all aspects of financial planning as well as honing his skills and technical expertise.

Lloyd believes that the client relationship is the best foundation to help understand how Financial Planning can benefit clients in achieving their long term goals. He is passionate about all areas of Financial Planning with particular focus on Inheritance Tax and Pension planning.

He is in the process of becoming a fellow of the Personal Finance Society and outside of work plays rugby for Esher in National League 1.

Lorraine is an investment manager responsible for managing investment portfolios on behalf of private clients, trusts and charities. 

She has worked in investment management for over 16 years and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment, having completed the Regulation & Compliance and Private Client Investment Advice and Management examinations.  Prior to joining Rathbones, Lorraine was an Investment Manager with Brewin Dolphin, Glasgow.

Louise is a marketing manager with 20 years strategic marketing and business development experience. She joined Rathbones in 2015 after spending the previous 3 years at law firm Kingsley Napley. Prior to that she spent 3 years at Herbert Smith Freehills and previously worked for Harbottle & Lewis, Wilmer Hale and Clyde & Co.

Louise read English at Leeds University and loves books. Originally from the Lake District, she enjoys outdoor activities and regularly escapes the City to go walking, kayaking and sailing with her two daughters.

Lyndsay Lynch is a tax manager, joining Rathbones in 1989 after starting her tax career with a local chartered accountancy firm. Lyndsay has considerable experience, specialising in personal tax compliance as it affects individuals and trusts and enjoys all aspects of private client work. Lyndsay is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).

Marcus Hutchings is an investment director specialising in private client portfolio management, associated self invested pension schemes and trusts. He also manages investment portfolios on behalf of charities.

He is a graduate of Exeter University and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment. The early part of his financial career was spent at Killik & Co in London before joining Rathbones in 1997.

Mark is an Investment Director, joining Rathbones in June 2015. He has spent over 25 years in the Financial Services industry and is a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment and amongst others, holds the Private Client Investment Advice & Management papers.

Since 2007, Mark has been responsible for managing bespoke investment solutions for individuals who are under the Court of Protection (CoP) or in receipt of an award for catastrophic personal injury. Before joining Rathbones, the last 12 years have been at Gerrard Investment Management Limited who were taken over by Barclays as part of the Wealth & Investment Management division, initially as a Wealth Advisor before helping to reshape the CoP and Personal Injury Trust team.

Mark Luboff

Mark Luboff is Director – Corporate Development and is part of the team responsible for co-ordinating the M & A activities for the Group and leading Group-wide strategic projects. He qualified as a chartered accountant with Arthur Andersen & Co and is also a member of the Association of Corporate Treasurers.

Prior to joining Rathbones he spent over 16 years with Kleinwort Benson specialising in securitisation, structured finance and M & A transactions and latterly as Finance Director of Dresdner RCM Global Investors. He joined Rathbones in 2005. 

Mark Waring

Mark Waring is an investment manager who began his career at Rathbones in 2006.  He spent the first six years working on the central dealing desk, during which time he was responsible for trading all asset classes with a particular focus on fixed interest securities. He moved to investment management in 2012 and now manages a variety of bespoke portfolios for private clients, including SIPP’s, charities, offshore bonds and family trusts, working in a team alongside Helen Gerrard and Nick Jackson. 

Mark is also involved in the running Rathbones’ financial awareness programme – a national initiative which aims to increase the financial awareness of young people. As part of this programme, Mark speaks at schools and hosts financial workshops for young people who are looking to broaden their financial knowledge or seeking to pursue careers in the finance industry. 

Mark has completed the Securities Institute Diploma, is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and is a Chartered Wealth Manager. He also holds an honours degree in English.
