Investment Director at Rathbone Investment Management, Robert Hughes-Penney, has today become the Master of the Guild of Investment Managers.
Robert Hughes-Penney, Deputy Head of Rathbones London, is a founding member of the Guild of Investment Managers, which was established in 2015.
The Guild was created to bring together like-minded individuals from across the City of London’s investment management industry as well as to promote the importance of the sector within London.
It hosts events including debates and ‘meet and greet’ networking opportunities, where individuals can come together, learn from each other and share industry best practice. Membership is available for all those within the industry to join no matter their level of experience.
As part of its charitable work, the Guild focuses on personal finance education and encouraging individuals from all walks of life to engage with their finances and plan for a healthy financial future.
Looking forward, the Guild hopes to achieve full Livery company status at some point in the future. Livery Companies have been a part of the City of London since medieval times, but this would be the first time that the investment management industry has been represented by one.
Robert Hughes-Penney has worked in investment management for over 25 years, specialising in managing portfolios for individuals, families, trusts and charities. Robert also recently became an Alderman in the City of London.
“The investment management industry is a significant part of financial services sector within the City of London, so it’s almost surprising that we hadn’t been represented beforehand.
“I am proud to be leading an organisation that is celebrating the work the industry does and the people behind it. My hope is to see the Guild take its place as one of the representatives of the City, and use this position to help individuals have a better understanding of their personal finances through training that we can provide.”
