Mark Cowan

Mark is an investment director with many years of investment experience. He manages portfolios for a wide range of individuals, families, trusts, pension funds and charitable organisations.

Mark joined Speirs & Jeffrey in 1989 after studying business studies at college and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment. Speirs & Jeffrey was fully integrated with Rathbones in July 2019.

Mark has worked as a financial adviser and latterly as an investment manager for over 30 years. He joined Rathbones in 2015 following a 13 year career with Gerrard and Barclays Wealth.

Since 2007, Mark has worked with a large number of specialist professionals in personal injury and Court of Protection, aiding lay and public authority deputies with the wealth management and broader finances of an extremely vulnerable client base. He is a proud supporter of Headway East London, Headway Blackpool and Wyre & Fylde, raising charitable donations with his team from various events and adventures over the past decade. Mark is a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.

Mark is director – corporate development and is part of the team responsible for coordinating the M & A activities for the Group and leading Group-wide strategic projects. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Arthur Andersen & Co and is also a member of the Association of Corporate Treasurers.

Prior to joining Rathbones he spent over 16 years with Kleinwort Benson specialising in securitisation, structured finance and M & A transactions and latterly as finance director of Dresdner RCM Global Investors. He joined Rathbones in 2005. 

Mark Waring

Mark is an investment director who began his career at Rathbones in 2006.  He spent the first six years working on the central dealing desk, during which time he was responsible for trading all asset classes with a particular focus on fixed interest securities. He moved to investment management in 2012 and now manages a variety of bespoke portfolios for private clients, including SIPP’s, charities, offshore bonds and family trusts, working in a team alongside Helen Gerrard and Nick Jackson. 

Mark is also involved in the running Rathbones’ financial awareness programme – a national initiative which aims to increase the financial awareness of young people. As part of this programme, Mark speaks at schools and hosts financial workshops for young people who are looking to broaden their financial knowledge or seeking to pursue careers in the finance industry. 

Mark has completed the Securities Institute Diploma, is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and is a Chartered Wealth Manager. He also holds an honours degree in English.

Mark is regional director in the Cambridge office. He is an investment director who specialises in the management of private client portfolios, trusts, pensions and charities. Mark has worked in the financial industry since his graduation in 1994 and he was directly involved in opening the Cambridge office for Rathbones in 2001.

Mark has been a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment since 1999 and became a Fellow in 2000. He received the APCIMS Award for achieving the highest marks that year in the Private Client Investment Advice and Management paper of the Diploma.

Martha joined Rathbones as an investment director in 2016.  At Rathbones Martha concentrates on investments for private individuals, their pensions and family trusts, specialising in the management of multi asset investment portfolios.  Martha is a qualified Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments and holds the Securities Institute Diploma.

Having graduated from the University of Edinburgh, Martha began her career at Cazenove, on the graduate training programme, gaining experience in all facets of the business. She concluded that a future managing individuals’ wealth suited her skill set and interest. In 2006 Martha joined HSBC Global Asset Management in the Discretionary Wealth division.  As a director, Martha had regional responsibility for London working closely with clients and their advisers.

Martin joined Rathbones as an investment director in 2014 before being appointed regional director in 2019.  A specialist in investments, Martin already had a strong reputation when he came to us from Williams de Broë (now Investec) and continues to build on that today.

A Chartered Member of the Securities Institute for Securities and Investment, Martin has worked in the financial services industry for over 40 years.  As well as being responsible for running and developing the Chichester team he also manages a large portfolio of investments for private clients, personal pensions, trusts, charities and company accounts.

Mary Sheehan

Mary is a research administrator and joined Rathbones in 2016.  Mary sits on the research support team and is responsible for taking minutes of meetings, building relationships with external brokers, organising company meetings, creating and maintaining departmental procedures and other ad hoc project work.

Mary has over 17 years’ experience in financial services, having previously worked for Lloyds Banking Group and BGC Partners. She gained her AAT Accounting Certificate in 2001 and became a full member of the Association of Accounting Technicians in 2002.

Matt Beaumont

Matthew has recently joined Rathbones as an investment director having over 23 years of investment experience managing portfolio for individuals, trusts, charities and pension funds at Quilter Cheviot.

He is a Chartered Fellow of the CISI as well as being a long serving committee member and ex-president of the Manchester District of the CISI. He holds a BA (Hons) degree in Accounting & Finance from the University of Manchester.

Matthew’s focus remains to work closely with the owners of the funds and their chosen professional advisers, providing the highest quality of service at all times.

Matt Crossman

Matt is the stewardship director for the group. Overseeing the work of the Stewardship Committee, he ensures active voting at company AGMs, whilst also being the group lead on the integration of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) factors into the investment process. He also leads thematic engagement with companies on ESG issues, especially that undertaken via the UN backed Principles for Responsible Investment. 

He is a graduate of the University of Bristol where he studied law, with a particular interest in the administration of environmental law, and also has post-graduate qualifications in Sustainable Development theory and practice. He is a trustee of LoveBristol, and urban regeneration charity, and served on the board of the Ecumenical Council for Corporate Responsibility between 2007 and 2012.

Matt is an investment sales consultant working alongside Arron Silk; and is responsible for client relationships and sales within the South. Before joining Rathbones in 2015, Matt spent three years at Fidelity Worldwide Investment supporting IFA’s and brokers in sales & client services. Matt holds a BA (Hons) degree in Business & Finance from the University of Greenwich.

Matthew has worked as an investment manager since 2004. Having previously worked at Quilter & Co, he joined Rathbones’ Birmingham office to add to the team spearheading growth in the Midlands and wider region. Matthew specialises in providing and managing bespoke investment solutions for SIPPs/SSASs, offshore bonds, equity, bond and collective portfolios for private clients, trustees and friendly societies.

Matthew gained an honours degree in Economics from the University of Liverpool in 2002 and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment.

Matthew joined Rathbones as an investment director in June 2014.  He specialises in managing investment portfolios for private clients, pension funds, trusts, charities and private companies. 

Matthew began his career in 1994 at Robson Cotterell which went on to become part of Charles Stanley in 2002.  He was an investment manager at Deutsche Bank Asset & Wealth Management for 6 ½ years before joining Rathbones. 

Matthew is an individually Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and is also a Chartered Wealth Manager.  He was named as one of the Top 40 under 40 UK investment professionals by PAM in 2011.

Matthew is an investment manager and a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment.

His focus is on the construction and management of bespoke investment portfolios. He specialises in managing funds for private individuals of all ages, pensions, charities and trusts. Matthew prides himself on the high level of service that he provides to clients and being able to provide innovative solutions to meet their individual needs.

He started his career in financial services in Exeter in 2012 and has obtained the level 7 Chartered Wealth Manager qualification. Matthew joined Rathbones in 2018.

Matthew is a client director at Rathbone Investment Management International. He has worked in the private client investment management industry for over 35 years, most recently as a director of Cazenove Capital in Jersey. In that time he has worked closely with trust companies, consultants, individuals and their advisers providing solutions in investment management, banking and debt structuring.

Matthew is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment. He holds the Diploma in Company Direction from the Institute of Directors, a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing, and the Banking Diploma from the Chartered Institute of Bankers.

Matthew joined Rathbones in 2014, having previously worked closely with Rathbones for a number of years as a partner, with Julian Whately, of Rooper & Whately solicitors.  Matthew qualified as a solicitor in 1999 and has extensive experience of advising clients in relation to their Wills, probates, powers of attorney and trusts.  Matthew also advises clients, including a number of landed estates, on succession planning and the proper mitigation of inheritance tax and capital gains tax. 

Where appropriate, Matthew has taken on fiduciary roles for clients and their families – whether as an executor, attorney or trustee – and aims to carry out these roles responsibly and with sensitivity to the needs of the client’s circumstances, as required.

Meera Dennis

Meera is an investment director and has a master's degree in Economics from Calcutta University and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities.

Meera started her professional career as a journalist in Calcutta, before joining the Bombay Stock Exchange in 1985. She subsequently moved to Aberdeen and started her investment career with William Murray Stockbrokers in 1987, helping to set up the Charterhouse Tilney office in Aberdeen in 1988. She joined Allied Provincial Securities in 1993 and was later appointed a divisional director of Brewin Dolphin. She managed both discretionary and advisory funds covering private clients, charities, SIPPs and offshore and onshore investment bonds. She joined Rathbones in February 2010.

Melanie Wotherspoon

Melanie joined Rathbones in 2014 after spending the previous seven years at Jupiter. Prior to that, she spent nine years at Baring Asset Management and previously worked for Deutsche Morgan Grenfell and EY. She gained international experience working for HSBC in Hong Kong, San Francisco and Mumbai. 

Melanie is a Chartered Accountant, has a degree in Systems and Management from City University, London and is a Chartered Member of the CISI.

She is both a trustee and chair of the Finance and Investment Committee for the Francis C Scott Charitable Trust that commits over £1m a year to areas of deprivation in Cumbria and North Lancashire. The Scott Trust has a particular focus on the young. Melanie is also a member of the Worshipful Company of Chartered Accountants.

Michael Cumberlidge

Michael is an investment sales consultant for Scotland, Northern Ireland and London working alongside Brian McLaughlin; and is responsible for growing the Rathbone footprint in the area via deeper relationships with the financial adviser community as well as discretionary fund managers. Michael joined Rathbones in October 2016, having spent two years with Octopus Investments.

Michael is an investment director and manages portfolios for a wide range of clients from individuals and families to pension funds and trusts.

Michael graduated from Aberdeen University with an honours degree in Political Studies, and Stirling University with an MSc in Investment Analysis. He joined Speirs & Jeffrey in 1999 and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment. Speirs & Jeffrey was fully integrated with Rathbones in July 2019.

Michael Dodds

Michael joined Rathbones in July 2019 having worked with True Potential Wealth Management. He has obtained his Diploma in Financial Planning and is working his way towards Chartered Financial Planning status. Michael has an MSc in International Business from Newcastle University.

He assists with client meetings and the associated tasks as well as drafting certain pieces of work.

Michael is an assistant investment manager supporting Peter Thomson and Jason Toole with discretionary portfolio management, investment selection and client relationships. The team specialises in domestic, RIMI and SEC private clients, pension schemes and trusts.

He holds a BSc Honours in Economics from Brunel University and is an Associate of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment having completed his Investment Advice Diploma. Michael is currently studying towards becoming a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).

Michael is an investment director and manages investment portfolios for a broad client base ranging from individuals and families to trusts and institutions. 

Michael graduated from Aberdeen University with a degree in Economics and Accountancy. He then spent five years with Ernst & Young during which time he qualified as a Chartered Accountant. He joined Speirs & Jeffrey in 1993 becoming a director of the firm in 1999 up until the point Speirs & Jeffrey was fully integrated with Rathbones in July 2019.

Michael has a background in research and institutional stockbroking. Away from the office he enjoys his family life and a variety of different sports.

Mike is a senior financial planner, joining Rathbones in 2017 from Lloyds Bank Private Clients. Mike has over 30 years’ experience working in the financial services industry. He is a Chartered Financial Planner and a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society who specialises in providing holistic financial planning to high net worth individuals.

Mike is chief executive officer of Rathbone Unit Trust Management, joining in February 2010. With over 25 years’ experience, Mike joined from Hermes Fund Managers where he was head of business development. Previous roles include chief executive officer of Invesco Perpetual, prior to which he was managing director of the Retail division of GT Global Asset Management and sales & marketing director of Prolific Financial Management.

Miles is a trainee investment manager in the investment management team at Rathbones. Having graduated from the University of Exeter, where he studied business management, Miles joined Rathbones in 2018. He spent time in the anti-money laundering department, working on a regulatory project, before joining the trainee programme in September 2019. 

Miles is a student member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments (CISI) and currently studying for the CISI level 4 Investment Advice Diploma.

Myles graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2015 with a first class honours degree in International Business and has a keen interest in financial planning and investment management.

He joined Rathbones in 2018 after completing the Diploma in Financial Planning with the Personal Finance Society (CII) in a role where he was advising business clients on group schemes and various protection products.

Myles is now working towards Chartered Financial Planner status. He currently assists Mike Hunter and Andy Stevenson with formulating advice and client meetings.

Naomi Morris

Naomi is an investment sales consultant working alongside Ben Johnson; and is responsible for client relationships and sales within the South West of England, South Wales and the Channel Islands. Before becoming a sales consultant, Naomi was an investment sales administrator at Rathbones where she was responsible for assisting the sales team and managing internal relationships with the marketing team.

Naomi joined Rathbones in April 2016 having graduated with a BA (Hons) in Economics from the University of Sheffield. She holds the Investment Management Certificate.

Natalie Rizzi

Natalie is an investment director and has been managing funds for private clients and trustees since 1993. She joined Rathbones in July 2000 from Close Brothers where she was director of Private Asset Management (formerly Rea Brothers). She spent most of her career at Rea Brothers starting off in foreign exchange and moving to the investment management department in 1989. Natalie passed her General Registered Representative exam in 1989 and has been a Diploma Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment since 1993.

Natalya is an assistant investment manager in our Exeter office supporting the team in the management of private client, trust, company and charity investment portfolios. She works closely with a number of professional advisers providing reliable and accurate assistance on behalf of their clients.

Natalya holds the Investment Advice Diploma and is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment. She joined Rathbones in 2008.
